MEF awards certification of MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet and SD-WAN services to member companies that successfully achieve certification. Certification is assigned to a specific service offering and tested against an instance of that service. Although it is not mandatory to use MEF 3.0 certified technology to deliver a certified service, it is highly recommended.

Orchestration-ready MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet (CE) certified services provide the highest level of performance, assurance, and agility available in the $60+ billion global CE services market. MEF 3.0 CE services incorporate dozens of published standards, substantially increasing capabilities, and raising the performance bar well above globally ubiquitous and widely certified CE 2.0 services.
MEF 3.0 CE certified service portfolio includes sets for:
Subscriber Services: E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree
Operator Services: Access E-Line and Transit E-Line.
In November 2019, MEF introduced the MEF 3.0 SD-WAN certification program to accelerate implementation of standardized SD-WAN services worldwide. The certification tests the service attributes and their behaviors defined in the MEF SD-WAN standard.
SD-WAN certification enables service and technology providers to demonstrate conformity with the industry’s highest SD-WAN service standards through rigorous testing of service attributes, functions, and capabilities for a policy-driven, application-aware, over-the-top WAN connectivity service that uses policies to determine how application flows are directed over multiple underlay networks.
MEF awards certification of MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet and SD-WAN technology (e.g. equipment) to those member companies that successfully achieve certification. Certification is assigned to specific products/models from the technology vendor.

Recognized by stakeholders in the ICT community and included in RFx language for procurement of both services and technology, MEF’s certification program sets the industry bar by codifying best practices.
